Purpose Of The Role

To manage and oversee safety operations at the plant level, ensuring compliance with all safety regulations and fostering a safe working environment. The role involves implementing safety policies, conducting risk assessments, and promoting safety culture across the plant to reduce accidents and safeguard employees’ health and well-being.

Job Responsibilities

  • Implement and maintain plant-specific safety policies and procedures, ensuring alignment with overall company safety standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Conduct regular risk assessments, safety audits, and site inspections to identify potential hazards and ensure corrective actions are implemented.
  • Investigate plant-level accidents and incidents, determine root causes, and recommend and implement corrective and preventive measures.
  • Coordinate and deliver safety training programs for employees, fostering a safety-conscious culture across all plant operations.
  • Collaborate with plant management to integrate safety protocols into daily operations and strategic decision-making processes.
  • Ensure the plant’s compliance with occupational health and safety (OHS) regulations, conducting internal audits and preparing for external inspections.
  • Prepare and present safety performance reports to senior safety management, highlighting key trends, risks, and improvements required.
  • Lead and mentor the plant safety team, providing guidance, training, and support for career development.
  • Act as a liaison with external stakeholders, including regulatory bodies, industry experts, and insurance providers, to ensure adherence to safety standards and continuous improvement.

Internal

Stakeholder Profiles & Nature of Interactions:

  • Plant Management: Collaborate on integrating safety measures into operational procedures and driving continuous improvements.
  • Safety Department: Work closely with the head safety team to align plant safety practices with corporate safety strategies.
  • HR & Training Teams: Partner on safety training initiatives and employee health and well-being programs.

External

  • Regulatory Authorities: Ensure compliance with safety regulations, manage audits, and address safety-related inquiries.
  • Industry Experts & Consultants: Engage for safety benchmarking, adopting best practices, and driving safety innovations.
  • Insurance Providers: Manage plant-specific occupational safety risks and compliance with liability requirements.

Experience

Desired Candidate Profile:

  • 8-12 years of experience in safety management, with at least 3-5 years in a leadership role within the manufacturing or automobile industry.
  • Proven track record in managing safety operations in large-scale manufacturing environments, with experience in risk assessment, safety audits, and incident investigations.

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong knowledge of OHS regulations, industry standards, and safety management best practices.
  • Leadership and team management skills with the ability to drive safety culture and influence behavior change.
  • Problem-solving, analytical, and decision-making abilities, with a focus on mitigating risks and ensuring safety compliance.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and influence at all organizational levels.
  • Proficiency in safety management tools and software for data reporting and analysis.
