Role: Lead API Developer
Location: Offshore

Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced Lead API Developer (Python/FastAPI) to design, develop, and lead scalable, secure, and high-performance API and integration solutions.

This role is responsible for building API-led architectures that support modern web and mobile applications, leveraging Python, FastAPI, Node.js, MongoDB, and AWS Cloud technologies.

The ideal candidate will provide technical leadership to offshore teams, ensure adherence to enterprise integration standards, and drive best practices across API development and governance.

Key Responsibilities

API & Integration Development

  • Design, develop, and maintain RESTful APIs using Python (FastAPI) and Node.js
  • Implement API-led integration patterns for seamless communication across enterprise systems
  • Develop and optimize data access layers using MongoDB and NoSQL databases
  • Ensure APIs are high-performing, scalable, and optimized for web and mobile applications
  • Design reusable and modular integration components for enterprise use

Cloud & Platform Integration

  • Design and deploy API solutions on AWS Cloud ensuring high availability and scalability
  • Integrate APIs with backend systems and cloud-native services
  • Implement containerization and microservices-based architectures (where applicable)
  • Support CI/CD pipelines, automated builds, and deployments

Technical Leadership (Offshore)

  • Lead and mentor offshore API and integration development teams
  • Conduct code reviews and enforce development best practices
  • Define and govern API standards, versioning, and documentation frameworks
  • Troubleshoot complex integration issues and drive root cause analysis (RCA)
  • Collaborate with architects, product owners, QA, and stakeholders for end-to-end delivery

Quality, Security & Governance

  • Ensure compliance with enterprise security, performance, and regulatory standards
  • Implement logging, monitoring, and error-handling frameworks
  • Promote reusability, scalability, and maintainability across API components
  • Drive API lifecycle management including design, testing, deployment, and monitoring

Required Skills & Experience

  • Strong hands-on experience with Python (FastAPI) for API development
  • Proficiency in Node.js for backend/middleware services
  • Experience with MongoDB / NoSQL databases
  • Solid experience in AWS Cloud (EC2, Lambda, API Gateway, etc.)
  • Strong understanding of:
    • REST API design principles
    • API lifecycle management
    • Integration patterns (sync/async, event-driven)
  • Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments
  • Proven ability to lead and mentor offshore teams

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience designing APIs for mobile-first applications
  • Exposure to microservices and cloud-native architectures
  • Familiarity with DevOps practices, CI/CD, and automation tools
  • Knowledge of API security (OAuth2, JWT, etc.)
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills

Nice-to-Have

  • Experience with containerization (Docker/Kubernetes)
  • Exposure to API gateways (Apigee, Kong, AWS API Gateway)
  • Knowledge of healthcare integrations (FHIR/HL7) - if relevant to Carelon/Elevance
