Senior Manager-Material Science

Purpose of the Role

This position is required to meet NPI Environmental Management PAT requirement as per Target Book covering regulatory as well as other sustainability related targets covering CO2 evaluation & reduction, material circularity topics. This also cover confirming compliance with upcoming & continuously updated existing global environmental regulations and standards for vehicle-related products, including ELV, EPR, REACH, POP, BRS Conventions, GADSL, and battery-specific directives. This position is critical to track, identify product environmental regulatory requirements & mitigate the compliance risk which will be required for vehicle type approval & to meet sustainability related targets in PAT book.

Job Responsibility

• Candidate shall directly interface with supplier representatives for collecting IMDS / REACH/ ELV declarations from supplier & meet the regulatory RRR, Hazardous materials environmental regulations.
• Create/ Analyse / Modify Material Data Sheets (MDS)
• Responsible for whole vehicle type approval for environmental management and achieving the sustainability PAT targets for individual programs.
• Continuously track and interpret upcoming / existing environmental product regulations & regulated hazardous chemicals covered through these regulatory requirements to ensure compliance for vehicle-related products. These requirements include (but not limited to) ELV regulation, EPR’s, REACH, POP & BRS Convention, GADSL, and battery-specific regulations.
• Analyze changes in legislation, upcoming regulated hazardous substances and assess their impact on products, supply chains, and business operations & ensure product compliance with global environmental standards and regulations throughout the product lifecycle.
• Conduct awareness sessions with supplier on regulatory requirements & develop IT compliance modules to meet environment attributes.
• To have basic knowledge of Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) and should be able to perform LCA for complete vehicle, assembly, component to perform vehicle level impact evaluation and hot-spot analysis.
• To have basic understanding of Circular Economy & its levers
• To track, analyse & evaluate recycled content at each part/assembly, evaluate recycled content at vehicle level and estimate the environmental impact reduction.
• To understand & interpret ESG ( Environment & social Governance) ratings / reports, SBT ( Science based targets) – Scope 1, 2 & 3
  
  

Desired Candidate Profile

• Bachelor’s in Environmental Science or Environmental engineering with 5+ years of experience in the domain of product sustainability
• Strong technical background with thorough understanding on vehicle related product regulations
• Experience in handling LCA projects, evaluating environmental impacts & material circularity
