Profile Description
We’re seeking someone to join our team as Chief Operating Officer (COO) of India Global Centers (GC), responsible for overseeing business unit and support functions in Morgan Stanley’s GCs located in India (currently Mumbai and Bangalore “Offices”). The role is to help build India GC strategy in partnership with GC head and the Senior Management Group comprising the Business Unit heads and execute the strategic agenda. The COO is responsible for helping move the workforce strategy forward by ensuring the site has the optimal structure, governance, and an environment enabling business units to be successful.
The GC COO reports locally into the GC Head (Firm Management). This team provides strategy and governance support, facilitates employee engagement including oversight over the employee networks and committees and manages site level budgets. The role involves various aspects of business management - managing risk, financials, training and development, vendor management, CS technology initiatives, communication, process improvement and other ad hoc initiatives for the upcoming growth and project activities.
The COO will also represent the Firm on various local industry and government bodies including at board level.

Profile Description

Key Responsibilities Include
What you’ll do in the role
- Build GC strategy: Work with the GC head to build on the GC strategy besides ensuring seamless execution in partnership with Business Units (BU) as well as Infrastructure functions. Strategic focus areas could cover key parameters such as work force strategy, location strategy, talent engagement and development, innovation and driving cost efficiencies. The role holder should also design and enable cross BU collaboration to get the full benefits of the Integrated Firm approach.
- Local Governance: Ensure site governance through various forums across BU heads, BU COOs, local infrastructure divisions (HR, CS, IT, Finance, legal and compliance, tax, internal audit etc.) to track actions and escalate risks as well as chart mitigating actions and close open issues; ensure an adequate level of risk related intelligence is preserved related to both, regulatory and operational risk.
- Risk Management and Mitigation: The COO will be responsible for streamlining operational processes to address potential vulnerabilities, implementing robust technology solutions to enhance monitoring and decision making and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements to mitigate risks.
- Planning and Administration: Plan agenda for management meetings as well as annual GC planning sessions and ensure follow up of actions. Execute various BAU and ad hoc initiatives and projects. Provide oversight to global senior management and BU stakeholder visits to the GC, and adequate preparation across GC teams and Business.
- Control Environment: Chair recurring meetings like the infrastructure meeting, BU COO meetings, with infrastructure and control group leads.
- Business Continuity/Resilience: The COO will implement strategies to enhance operational resilience, ensuring India GC can adapt to disruptions and maintain operational continuity during crisis. Individual will partner with regional teams like BCP (Fusion resilience group), Technology Risk, Conduct Risk, Operational Risk and Corporate Communications to ensure adequate levels of awareness and training are preserved, as well as facilitate key initiatives related to these areas with help from BU COOs or BU heads.
- Innovation and Transformation: COO will support and influence GC wide business transformation, improve efficiency including fostering culture of innovation and collaborating with global teams to implement best practices and scalable solutions.
- Real Estate: Work closely with the global Real Estate and Location Strategy team managing BU relationships for deployment plans and pipelines, space requirements etc. Review and monitor key site metrics such as financials, employee and contingent metrics, risks, competitive landscape, trends, etc., and escalate issues as required for review and resolution.
- Key People Metrics: Develop and publish metrics, dashboards and reporting for senior management updates.
- Local Business Community: Participate and represent the firm in industry forums such as NASSCOM, AMCHAM etc. as needed, maintain a good understanding and relationships with peer GCs.
- Financials: Coordinate GC budget planning and monitoring, help in driving cost efficiencies. Own the GC incentives through reduction is taxes, duties etc.
- Cross Office Committees: Work closely with the sponsors and chairs of the GC Employee Networks and committees to ensure a cohesive plan for the GC to drive employee engagement.
- Global GC Coordination: Coordinate with other GC locations to ensure best practices in global GC COO Forums for continuity in approach to GC management.
- Culture and Values: Promote Morgan Stanley culture and values (e.g., compliance, diversity, financial discipline, meritocracy, reward, and recognition etc.)
- Employer Branding: work closely with the GC Head, Marketing Head and HR Head in India to raise the employer brand in the GC.
- A good understanding of the business with at least 15 years of experience in financial services or general management.
- Strong experience in managing multiple agendas across various BU and infrastructure senior stakeholders.
- Ability to drive key initiatives and deliver superior results through influence.
- Ability to work in both team and individual settings, excellent people skills.
- Ability to see the “big picture” for the GC by connecting inputs, conversations across BU and infrastructure leads.
- Must be able to multi-task and be nimble with changing priorities.
- Strong Communication Skills at Executive level as well as for GC wide communications.
- Strong organizational and project management skills.
- Attention to detail as appropriate.
- Experience working in an international environment and with remote teams across the globe would be a bonus.
