Job Overview

The Senior Estimation Engineer - Civil in road construction is responsible for preparing detailed cost estimates, particularly focused on road and highway projects. The role requires in-depth analysis of tender documents, site data, and design specifications to provide accurate estimates, typically created in Excel sheets for ease of reporting and analysis. This position is vital in preparing competitive bids and ensuring effective cost management during the project lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities

• Estimate Preparation for Road Projects :
• Review road construction drawings, specifications, and tender documents to prepare cost estimates.
• Prepare accurate quantity take-offs for earthworks, asphalt, concrete, sub-grade, and other key components of road construction.
• Develop cost breakdowns for materials, equipment, labor, and subcontractors involved in road construction projects.
• Cost Estimation in Excel :
• Create detailed estimation templates and cost reports in Excel, including itemized quantities, unit costs, and total costs.
• Use Excel formulas and functions to automate quantity take-offs and cost calculations, ensuring accuracy.
• Prepare comparison sheets (BOQ vs. actual costs) to evaluate project costs at different stages.
• Tendering and Bidding :
• Analyze tender documents and prepare both technical and commercial proposals for road construction projects.
• Attend pre-tender meetings and conduct site visits to gather accurate project data.
• Review quotations from subcontractors and suppliers to ensure competitive pricing.
• Cost Analysis for Road Construction :
• Conduct risk assessments and value engineering to minimize costs while maintaining quality and safety standards.
• Provide ongoing cost control and budget management support throughout the project.
• Ensure the alignment of estimates with road construction best practices and material standards.
• Collaboration and Coordination :
• Work closely with project managers, design teams, and procurement departments to gather necessary information for estimation.
• Communicate effectively with consultants, clients, and government authorities regarding project scope and pricing.
• Provide guidance to junior estimation engineers and assist in training them on estimation techniques.
• Documentation and Reporting :
• Maintain detailed records of all estimation data, including Excel sheets, project documentation, and reports.
• Prepare regular cost reports and updates for management, including variance analysis and forecasting.
• Provide project handover documents, including final cost estimates and budget tracking.
• Market Research and Trends :
• Research and stay updated on the latest market trends in road construction, including material prices and labor rates.
• Explore innovative construction techniques and materials to improve project cost efficiency
