Data Center Technician, Global Server Operations
Date: 3 weeks ago
City: Mumbai, Maharashtra
Contract type: Full time

Minimum qualifications:
Google isn't just a software company. The Hardware Operations team is responsible for monitoring the state-of-the-art physical infrastructure behind Google's powerful search technology. As an Operations Technician, you'll install, configure, test, troubleshoot and maintain hardware (like servers and its components) and server software (like Google's Linux cluster). You'll also take on the configuration of more complex components such as networks, routers, hubs, bridges, switches and networking protocols. You'll participate in or lead small project teams on larger installations and develop project contingency plans. A typical day involves manual movement and installation of racks, and while it can sometimes be physically demanding, you are excited to work with infrastructure that is at the cutting-edge of computer technology.
As a Data Center Technician, you will perform core data center operations and deployment tasks on a single function (e.g., maintenance, machines, programs, networking, media security), under direct guidance. You will perform basic troubleshooting and problem identification to address day-to-day issues by following existing protocols and well-defined documented activities and escalate non-standard challenges when required. You are beginning to develop knowledge of data security systems, operations, processes, and procedures, as well as the ability to monitor potential data security issues.
The Data Center team designs and operates some of the most sophisticated electrical and HVAC systems in the world. We are a diverse, upbeat, creative, team-oriented group of engineers committed to building and operating powerful data centers.
Responsibilities
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
- Experience with Linux operating systems and networking protocols.
- Experience with Linux Administration, Network Infrastructure, Hardware, Project Management, Technical Support Operations, or Network Diagnostics.
- Experience with diagnosing and troubleshooting operating systems, computer hardware and server hardware.
- Experience with networking protocols and experience with performing component-level repairs on IT equipment.
- Ability to lift/move 50lb (23kg) of equipment and ability to exert yourself physically over extended periods of time, including frequent bending, kneeling, climbing, pushing/pulling and lifting.
- Ability to work non-standard hours, including working weekends, holidays and on shift-based schedules and flexibility to work in a 24/7 or 8/7 support model.
