Health & Safety Manager

Summary

This role provides strategic direction, sets priorities and leads Safety, Health and Wellbeing and Environmental activities across the client group, identifies and implements actions which will help drive continual improvement in Health, Safety and Environmental performance.

By working in close consultation with and providing technical support as a trusted advisor to the line management and site leadership team, the role is instrumental in ensuring the business maintains a strong commitment to continuous improvement in Safety, Health and Wellbeing and Environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Consistent with the overall SAPL Safety, Health and Wellbeing strategy, coach, lead and guide client group leadership to drive positive behaviors through the delivery of targeted programs.
• Drive performance improvements by establishing clearly defined yet challenging goals and work to improve and reinforce the knowledge, skills and behaviors of the team.
• Contribute to the development and review of Simplot OHS Policies and Procedures in line with regulatory and industry requirements and to manage site hazards and risks to an acceptable level.
• Periodic reporting on occupational health, safety and environmental performance, and the status of actions and plans.
• Manage external relationships with Vendors and Contractors.
• Manage external training providers and review effectiveness and provide internal training or train the trainer opportunities.
• Maintain OHS records, training records and Workers Compensation files and respond to requests for information.
• EMS Management Representative and providing support for members of the leadership team.
• Ensuring the EMS meets the requirements of ISO14001:2015
• Reporting (internally and externally) on the performance of the EMS including the selected KPIs, objectives and targets and significant incidents. This includes reporting to the site leadership team, the National Environment Manager and employees.
• Chemical system management including Safety Data Sheets
• Management of the Emergency Response Plan
• Monitoring and management of trade waste levels and limits leaving site and ongoing discussions with the local utility (Tas Water)
• Develop and manage the environment & safety budget for client group.
• Develop and drive the implementation of the OHS and Env Strategies throughout the site and provide measurement feedback on effectiveness in conjunction with the National Safety, Health and Wellbeing Manager and National Environmental Manager.
• Responsible for leading and managing key site projects and initiatives to support the implementation of the Simplot and site strategy
