Objectives:
The General Manager of Lucy Electric India is responsible for strengthening and expanding the business, with a significant increase in sales and market share by 2030. The market for switchgear products in India is currently 50,000 units per annum and Lucy Electric needs a leader with the skills, drive and determination to access it. You will be front and centre of the business transformation, setting the right culture, generating enthusiasm from your team, and challenging current wisdom. Your objective is to set the vision, strategy and leadership to enable the business to meet the demands for profitable growth. You will inspire employees and act as a role model for the sorts of behaviours required to embed change, striking the right balance between short-term improvement and long-term value. You will hold your line managers to account for their objectives, ensure they take responsibility and develop a team that can deliver results quickly and with ambition.
Job Purpose:
The General Manager reports directly to the Regional Managing Director (APAC, SA & India) of Lucy Electric.
Accountable for:- Achieving the Company’s finance and operational, sales revenue, and profit targets, whilst controlling costs, managing risk and delivering the budgeted profit margins. Creating the yearly budget and longer-term strategic plans in alignment with the overall Lucy Electric strategy
- The provision of pre and post sales, technical and commercial support to customers in India
- Ensuring an effective and responsive sales, marketing and tender response capability that focuses on meeting the needs of customers in all the Company’s regions
- Full manufacturing and Supply Chain activities within the manufacturing plant ensuring on time delivery of quality products to customers
- Energy Services delivery
- Customer warranty and aftermarket service support
- Effective oversight of risk and compliance in line with Group financial, governance and control policies
- Ensuring manufacturing operating standards, policies and other requirements set by global Center of Excellence (COE) are implemented
The General Manager must be a collaborative leader skilled in managing complex, multi‑matrix relationships and diverse stakeholders. Strong turnaround management capability is essential, supported by high energy, determination, and strategic insight to strengthening and expand the business, and to ensure it meets its growth and competitiveness objectives.
Key Job Requirements:
The role holder will be able to evidence strong people leadership skills, supported by wide ranging business, financial, commercial, operations and technical knowledge. Strong skills in change management execution must be evident. Preferably an MBA or equivalent qualification, along with a degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering (essential).
Job Dimensions:
The role will be based in India at the Nashik manufacturing plant and office. You will directly manage the Plant head, the Sales Director and other roles as per the organisation structure. Some central function have functional reporting lines that will require you to manage matrix relationships.
Key Accountabilities:

By owning P&L of the business, accountable for delivering the Company business strategy, key goals and initiatives that will enable the Company’s operations to gain competitive advantage and deliver business results.

As a board member of the organisation in India, accountable for the controls, process implementation and governance of the Company.

Accountable for the production of the budgets and business plans (MTP) to meet the budget and planning schedule.

Guarantee the delivery of the business strategy, by ensuring all employees have clear objectives and regular performance management meetings with their managers, driving a culture of performance excellence through a strong and mutually supportive management team.

Design and provision of pre and post sales technical support to Indian customers and salespeople that ensures the specification of safe, effective products and solutions at all times.

Manage and support the Company’s sales team to ensure delivery of the Company sales targets at budgeted margins, working with the Regional Managing Director to implement the agreed sales strategy. The LEI Sales Director reports into the General Manager.

Manage and support the Company’s operations teams to ensure the delivery of product at contracted delivery times, working with the Global Center of Excellence to implement the agreed manufacturing strategy for the Company. The LEI Plant Head reports into the General manager.

Accountable for the provision of L1 and L2 customer technical helpline to Indian customers and also accountable for the provision of L2 technical support.

Develop the Energy Services delivery capability through a focus on customer value creation

Provision of customer service and issue management including back office transaction processing.

Optimise standardisation and measurement of the Indian back office processes; define operational KPIs to measure and manage all aspects of the Indian operational delivery.

Report KPI results to the Regional Managing Director (APAC, SA & India) on monthly basis for inclusion in the strategic balanced scorecard.

Manage Company risks and governance requirements effectively in full compliance with Company reporting requirements and policies.

Qualifications, Experience and Skills:

An understanding of the electrical power engineering industry. Preferably experience in the Energy Distribution market

Strong interpersonal, communications and presentation skills. Degree educated in a relevant discipline such as business, business administration, or business management is essential. A relevant qualification in electrical or mechanical engineering would be desirable.

Responsibilities:

General Education:
- Degree (or equivalent) in business, engineering, finance or a related discipline
- MBA
General Experience:
- Extensive senior leadership experience with full business or P&L accountability
- Proven experience leading complex, multi-disciplinary operations
- Track record of delivering sustainable growth, profitability and performance improvement
- Demonstrated success leading organisational change and transformation
Wide and deep experience providing expert competence (Over 10 years to 15 years)
Managerial Experience:
Experience of planning, managing and organizing resources within short / medium timescales within the overall policy framework. (Over 6 years to 10 years)
