The position requires strong expertise in gas engine systems, mining applications, service processes, and Cummins diagnostic tools while maintaining compliance with safety and quality standards.
Key Responsibilities Service Operations & Technical Support
- Perform complex diagnostics, troubleshooting, repairs, overhauls, and rebuilds of gas engines, generators, and related systems with minimal supervision.
- Conduct preventive and predictive maintenance activities in accordance with Cummins standards and service schedules.
- Diagnose and resolve issues related to fuel systems, ignition systems, air-fuel management systems, turbochargers, aftercoolers, exhaust systems, and engine control modules (ECMs).
- Utilize specialized service tools, electronic diagnostic equipment, and Cummins software applications to identify root causes and validate repairs.
- Support commissioning, performance optimization, and operational reliability of gas engine installations.
- Act as the primary technical point of contact for customers during service events.
- Develop and maintain strong customer relationships by providing timely and effective technical support.
- Identify additional service opportunities and recommend solutions that improve equipment performance and customer satisfaction.
- Escalate complex technical issues through appropriate channels and ensure timely resolution.
- Apply structured troubleshooting methodologies to identify and resolve mechanical, electrical, and electronic issues.
- Analyze interactions between engine systems including fuel, cooling, lubrication, exhaust, controls, sensors, and aftertreatment systems.
- Interpret diagnostic data and service reports to recommend corrective actions and prevent recurrence of failures.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives by capturing lessons learned and technical best practices.
- Complete service reports, warranty documentation, timesheets, and technical records accurately and on time.
- Ensure compliance with Cummins service processes, SDP requirements, and documentation standards.
- Maintain accurate records of repairs, inspections, and maintenance activities.
- Adhere to export control, regulatory, and customer-specific requirements.
- Follow all Cummins HSE policies, procedures, and regulations.
- Identify, report, and mitigate workplace hazards.
- Promote a culture of safety, environmental responsibility, and continuous improvement.
- Ensure safe work practices during all field service and maintenance activities.
- Provide technical guidance and mentoring to junior technicians and apprentices.
- Support technical training initiatives and knowledge transfer activities.
- Share best practices and lessons learned to improve team capability and service effectiveness.
- Diploma or Vocational Certification in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Automobile Engineering, Power Generation, or a related technical discipline.
- Apprentice Trained Engine Technician certification preferred.
- Valid driving license required.
- Additional certifications related to engine diagnostics, power generation systems, or industrial equipment maintenance are advantageous.
Technical Skills
- Strong knowledge of Cummins Service KPIs, Optimus, and Service Delivery Process (SDP).
- In-depth understanding of internal combustion engines, thermodynamics, combustion systems, and gas engine operation.
- Expertise in gas engine fuel systems, ignition systems, air-fuel management systems, regulators, valves, turbochargers, aftercoolers, and exhaust systems.
- Strong knowledge of genset controllers, ECMs, and engine control systems.
- Advanced diagnostic and troubleshooting skills using electronic service tools.
- Understanding of engine mechanical systems including cylinder heads, pistons, liners, valve settings, lubrication systems, and compression systems.
- Knowledge of mining applications and power generation equipment.
- Customer-focused mindset with strong relationship management abilities.
- Excellent communication and technical reporting skills.
- Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving capability.
- Ability to manage complex technical situations and make sound decisions.
- Coaching, mentoring, and knowledge-sharing abilities.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in field environment
- Significant experience in field service, engine maintenance, diagnostics, and repair activities.
- Expert-level knowledge of gas engines, power generation equipment, and associated systems.
- Proven experience in customer-facing service roles.
- Experience in mining, industrial, or power generation applications preferred.
- Experience providing technical guidance and mentoring to junior technicians is desirable.
- Familiarity with Cummins service tools, processes, and systems preferred.
- Experience working on large gas engines and power generation systems.
- Knowledge of advanced engine controls, performance tuning, and emissions systems.
- Experience supporting mining, industrial, or critical power applications.
- Strong understanding of reliability improvement and root cause analysis methodologies.
