About The Department

The Chief Administrative Office advances connections across the Risk & Compliance division and its internal and external stakeholders. The team ensures that Risk & Compliance executes on its priorities, leverages best practices and innovative approaches, and deepens partnerships across the company to

further strengthen the Risk & Compliance organization. This includes oversight of senior-level risk governance through the Board of Directors, and Senior Risk and Control Committee (SRCC), companywide communications strategy to drive BNY’s risk culture, governance and controls for Risk & Compliance, people-focused initiatives that shape Risk & Compliance’s employees.

About The Team

BNY is looking for a Controls professional with expertise in banking and financial services Operational Risk. A Risk and Compliance Controls Manager maintains and implements an effective risk management framework, ensuring that BNY appropriately manages risk in line with its strategy and risk tolerance. They own the risk management process, establishing clear responsibilities and accountability for identifying, measuring, managing, and controlling risk. Additionally, they embed risk considerations into decisions and actions, ensuring that risk management is an integral part of the organization's operations.

Additionally, responsibilities also involve aiding the organization in meeting complex regulatory requirements, working with senior managers on risk & compliance reporting, and advising on control improvements. Strong interpersonal skills are essential to influence business decisions.

In this role, you’ll make an impact in the following ways:

  • Identify, analyze, monitor, and minimize operational risks across Risk & Compliance functions.
  • Oversee the development and implementation of control standards to ensure compliance with local regulatory requirements.
  • Participate in developing policies and procedures for deploying control activities and contributing to testing protocols to ensure control effectiveness.
  • Collaborate on developing operating limits, measure, and monitor risk levels per policies, and review plausible scenarios for effective risk management.
  • Monitor key risks, errors/near misses, reconciliations, and root cause analyses as reported across Risk & Compliance functions.
  • Conduct/Develop and monitor RCSA, KPI, KRI, and control testing outcomes.
  • Collaborate with global operations control office and operational groups to ensure consistent reporting structures and escalate issues to management when necessary.
  • Validate that Engagement Managers, for Third Party Services within Risk and Compliance, have requisite expertise in managing their engagements in compliance with third-party governance policies and processes.
  • Provide guidance and oversee the execution of activities throughout the engagement lifecycle by Engagement Managers and Executive Sponsors, ensuring compliance with third-party governance policies.
  • Support senior business leaders who serve as Executive Sponsors for key vendors, oversee and manage their third-party engagements, and coordinate to address third-party issues and manage related audit, regulatory, and risk and control matters.

To be successful in this role, we’re seeking the following:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and work experience required. Experience in the banking and financial services industry preferred.
  • 7-10 years of relevant experience needed; preference for candidates with operational, information security risk experience in banking & financial services.
  • Extensive experience in risk management and controls testing, with strong analytical skills to identify potential risks and recommend mitigation strategies.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with global operations control office, operational groups, and senior business leaders.
  • Preferred certifications: Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA), Certified in Risk and Information Systems Control (CRISC)
