UAV SYSTEMS ENGINEER

Life at FlytBase

Date: 6 hours ago
City: Pune, Maharashtra
Contract type: Full time
What We Do

FlytBase is a Physical AI software platform that powers autonomous drones and robots globally. Our cloud, edge, and on-premise solutions enable drones and robots to operate 24/7 at oil refineries, solar farms, rail yards, and industrial sites—detecting threats, predicting failures, and keeping operations running. FlytBase intelligent platform helps orchestrate fleets of third-party drones & robots, correlating data from multiple sensors and systems, and using AI to predict problems before they happen.

Fortune 500 companies & other large enterprises like Oxy (Oil & Gas), CSX (Rail-roads), Anglo-American (Mining), Statnett (Utilities), Dole (Plantation), Asheville - North Carolina Police Department (Public Safety), Discovery Land (Real-estate), Xcel Energy (Solar) are leveraging FlytBase globally to run autonomous operations on their industrial sites.

We've deployed our software at 300+ sites globally and have the largest 50+ channel partner & drone system integrator network in the world. Our platform removes human operators from the equation, transforming off-the-shelf drones into intelligent agents that work with existing infrastructure.

FlytBase has partnered with other leading enterprise solutions with ESRI, DJI, Genetec, Milestone, Pix4D, DroneDeploy, Strayos, and more to create a unified operational brain for physical sites.

We are reimagining how the physical world is monitored and managed through software.

The Role

Field Testing & Fleet Operations

  • Own the end-to-end field testing process—from planning to post-mission analysis.
  • Design, execute, and document drone flight missions in testbeds and industrial environments.
  • Lead onsite flight ops, ensure pre-flight safety protocols, and handle mission execution end-to-end.

Test Fleet & Hardware Lab Management

  • Oversee the lifecycle of our UAV test fleet—readiness, maintenance, repairs, procurement.
  • Set up, manage, and improve our drone hardware lab for efficient testing and integration workflows.
  • Resolve hardware and system issues independently and proactively.

Software & Autonomy Testing

  • Develop and execute rigorous flight test plans in sync with software release cycles.
  • Design intelligent, coverage-maximizing test cases to reduce redundant flight time.
  • Own software-hardware validation in the field—including new releases, critical features, and regression testing.

Team & Safety Leadership

  • Manage and mentor the UAV operations team, including junior engineers and flight operators.
  • Set safety SOPs and best practices for multi-drone field testing and high-stakes deployment scenarios.
  • Establish a test culture built on discipline, documentation, and feedback loops.

Cross-Team Collaboration & Product Feedback

  • Coordinate tightly with QA and development teams to ensure rapid test-turnaround cycles.
  • Act as a field consultant to the product team—translating mission logs and user issues into actionable product feedback.
  • Push back when needed to advocate for system-level improvements.

What You'll Own

We’re looking for a UAV Systems Engineer who thrives in real-world complexity. This isn’t a lab role. It’s boots-on-the-ground, systems-in-the-air. You’ll be the first line of intelligence between our autonomy stack and the environments it operates in. This role blends system integration, field deployment, debugging, and feedback-driven design.

Best Suited For

  • 3–4 years of hands-on experience in drone system integration, testing, or field deployment.
  • Deep familiarity with DJI, PX4 and Ardupilot enterprise systems—from tuning PID loops to configuring failsafes.
  • Strong command of tools like QGroundControl, MAVProxy, Mission Planner, and diagnostic workflows (log analysis, telemetry, GPS/ESC/IMU debugging).
  • Analytical and systems-driven—able to break down root causes, not just surface-level bugs.
  • Clear communicator—whether summarizing a failed test case or mentoring a junior engineer.

What Makes You a Flyter

  • You don’t fly drones for fun. You fly to understand how systems behave under edge conditions
  • You write flight reports that become feature stories, not just post-mortems
  • You treat field chaos as a feedback loop, not a blocker
  • You think like an engineer, execute like an operator, and debug like a detective
  • You push for autonomy by pushing every subsystem to its limit

What We Don't Want

  • Drone hobbyists who aren’t comfortable getting into firmware logs
  • Engineers who avoid the field or defer to others on system testing
  • Operators who can't trace the root cause of a crash
  • People who test to pass, not to break
  • Anyone who shrugs when systems fail unexpectedly

Why FlytBase?

  • H3 Philosophy: We're building a company that's Happy, Healthy, AND High-Performing. Not as a balance—as a harmony. We move fast without burning out.
  • Radical Ownership: You won't need permission to experiment, build, or lead. If you see a problem, you own the solution.
  • Mazaa Aayega: Our internal motto. Yes, the work is intense. But it's also deeply meaningful and genuinely fun.
  • Systems That Scale: We don't celebrate one-off heroics. We build compounding systems that create leverage.
  • In-Person Energy: We work from our Pune office because proximity accelerates everything—ideas, feedback, trust, and impact, but travel globally for customer meetings, tradeshows, and deployments.

The Perks

  • High ownership environment with zero micromanagement
  • Travel across deployment sites and field testing zones
  • Flat structure, flexible hours, fast feedback loops
