Technical Data Architect (Azure)

Summary Of The Position

The Azure Data Architect is a pivotal role within the data engineering team, responsible for designing, planning, and executing enhancements to our Azure-based data architecture which powers critical Tableau reporting used across the business. The role focuses on ensuring the architecture is robust, scalable, and aligned with business needs.

This role is instrumental in advancing the organisation’s data infrastructure, ensuring high availability, transparency, and governance. This position combines technical expertise, strategic insight, and effective communication to support data-driven initiatives and foster a collaborative and reliable data environment.

Key Responsibilities:

• Architectural Planning and Enhancements:
• Design and execute imprvements to the Azure data architecture to support scalability, reliability, integrity and evolving business requirements.
• Evaluate and recmmend Azure services and tools to optimise architecture performance and cost-efficiency.
• Establish and enfrce architectural standards and best practices for data management within the Azure ecosystem.
• Data Availability and Monitoring
• Define and implement rbust data availability & cost SLAs that align with business needs and expectations.
• Develp and deploy monitoring solutions to proactively identify and resolve data pipeline or infrastructure issues, ensuring adherence to both availability and cost SLAs.
• Documentation and Processes:
• Create and maintain cmprehensive data cataloguing and lineage documentation to enhance data transparency and discoverability from source to end user consumption.
• Establish prcesses to ensure documentation remains up-to-date, understandable and easily accessible across teams.
• Knowledge Sharing
• Present architectural cncepts, changes, and impacts to stakeholders with varying technical expertise, ensuring clarity and understanding.
• Cnduct training sessions and workshops to increase awareness and usability of the data architecture and related processes.
• Governance and Collaboration
• Cllaborate with data engineers, Tableau developers, and business teams to align architectural updates with organisational objectives.
• Act as a subject matter expert fr data architecture, addressing queries and providing guidance as needed.
• Define and enfrce data governance policies, ensuring compliance with security, quality, and operational standards.
  

Objectives

• Deliver a detailed roadmap for Azure data architecture enhancements, including scalability and performance optimisations.
• Implement data availability and cost SLAs and deploy a robust monitoring solution to ensure adherence and promote visibility
• Develop and operationalise a comprehensive framework for data cataloguing and lineage documentation
• Facilitate regular knowledge-sharing sessions and workshops to improve stakeholder understanding of our data architecture.
• Establish and refine processes for documenting, monitoring, and maintaining architectural updates to ensure ongoing data accuracy and accessibility.
  
  

Qualification And Skills

• Expertise in Azure services such as Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse Analytics, Azure SQL Database, Azure Data Lake, Data Bricks and Azure Monitor.
• Strong understanding of data cataloguing, lineage, governance concepts, and hands-on experience implementing these solutions.
• Experience developing and managing data availability SLAs and implementing monitoring solutions.
• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to articulate technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Demonstrated ability to produce clear, comprehensive technical documentation.
• Familiarity with Agile methodologies and collaborative team environments.
• Experience with Tableau data source integration is desirable.
