Job Duties
A thorough understanding of steel detailing and strong math skills. Spatial visualization awareness and a decent understanding of industry business practices in detailing, engineering and fabrication. The willingness to develop knowledge relevant to the structural steel industry. Organized with a high level of communication both written and verbal. Strong design knowledge and excellent attention to detail. Ability to meet strict deadlines. Possesses excellent people skills, is a good communicator, and a motivational leader with strong mentorship skills. You are proactive and a logical thinker who takes initiative to solve problems early. You are capable of performing your duties with a minimal amount of supervision.

- Complying with the requirement of design drawings
- Responsible for checking the modeling, connecting and editing of all drawings, primarily complex work.
- Ensuring industry standards are being held
- High level comprehension of engineering codes
- Responsible for maintaining knowledge in latest drafting standards and principles
- Performing CAD drawings in a manner which adheres to accepted Fabrication practices and standards, and passing this knowledge onto less experienced team members
- Executing CAD drafting tasks effectively and promptly
- Applying and developing 2D and 3D CAD skills in the creating, conveying or extraction of information related to project work.
- Reading and interpreting design drawings, project and client specifications
- Working as a senior member of the detailing and checking group to ensure packages are issued per client expectations and schedule
- Supporting and mentoring Checkers and detailers.
- Assisting with detailing and checking operations
- Checking and verifying design drawing to conform to specifications and design data
- Ensuring model is corrected when errors are discovered by senior team members
- Suggesting connections where the structural drawings have insufficient information
- Writing and reviewing RFI, EWO and TQs.
- Providing constructive feedback to detailers on mistakes.
- Conducting in-model reviews during the ABM & Connecting stages of a contract
- Conducting drawing checks at the Editing stage
- Reporting deficiencies in work quality and upholding the Dowco QCP.
- Checking shop and erection drawings for accuracy and completeness
- Reviewing product design for compliance with engineering principles, company standards, customer contract requirements and related specifications
- Performing markups on drawings where the required changes need to be made.
- Development and Management of Intermediate, Junior and Senior detailers, and Checkers when requested to do so.

- Minimum of 10 years of experience as a Steel Detailer/Checker
- Class I in Detailing (NISD) or approved equivalent by the Quality Assurance Manager
- Tekla 4 years minimum ( or similar 3D CAD software)
- Level 1: NISD Detailing Class I (or approved equivalent by the Quality Assurance Manager) and Tekla Evaluation
- Level 2: Diploma in Quality Management and Dowco Processes Exam and Tekla Evaluation
- Level 3: Quality Control in Manufacturing and Service Organization Certificate and Tekla Evaluation
