FUNCTION INTRODUCTION

The Oral Care category, through its Billion Smiles Mission, strives to bring healthy teeth and beautiful smiles to 1 billion consumers every day. Unilever Oral Care is the market leader in the key markets it operates in. The category represents a huge growth opportunity for Unilever through investing in brands with superior technology and consumer end benefits, As the Innovation Process Expert, you will create and implement processing for innovation and technologies for our core oral care brands. You will apply leading edge chemical engineering skills, including digital tools and modelling to identify and develop innovative manufacture processes that deliver more sustainable, more cost efficient and superior to consumer oral care technologies. This role will be based in India (Mumbai) and reports to the R&D PC Oral Care Group Leader, Innovation Formulation & Processing. Some local (within India) and occasional international travel is anticipated.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and develop process engineering for innovation funnel for PC Oral Care Global R&D Capabilities.
  • Translate the category D&E business strategy into a R&D programme to deliver innovations and technologies and manufacture processes.
  • Apply a deep understanding of chemical engineering and physical sciences to design and develop the processes for innovation and technology.
  • Lead digitization of pilot plant processing and application of process modelling
  • Partner with Supply Chain team to effectively implement new innovation and nee processes into sourcing units.
  • Partner with Oral Care formulation leaders, TPL and science & Technology Process Engineering leader to effectively transfer insights and create an aligned process innovation capability programme.

Key Skills

  • Preferably a first degree in Chemical Engineering or closely related discipline, with demonstrable evidence of creating and implementing new processes for semi solid formats.
  • Strongly preferred experience of Oral Care laboratory and pilot plant scale formulation and processing including a deep understanding of engineering principles and underlying physical and colloid science.
  • Experience in leading development and application of digital tools and modelling to develop innovative process solutions that provide simpler, more cost effective, and flexible processes.
  • Good understanding of statistical tools and complex/large data analysis.
  • Demonstrable ability to deliver technology and innovations in the context of multiple and evolving resource needs.
  • Able to develop a R&D strategy, shaping and leading a team to deliver across functional interfaces and geographies.
  • Strong leadership, communication and influencing skills.
  • Good external orientation – awareness of external technologies, competitors, and record of effective partnering with academic and 3Ps to identify and develop new technologies.
  • Good understanding of safety, regulatory and quality principles relating to processing.
  • Understanding of IP and track record of protecting technologies and/or insights.
