Your role and responsibilities
In this role, you will have the opportunity to contribute to ABB’s success with technology, software, product, and system development. Each day, you will identify and implement innovative solutions to relevant problems. You will also showcase your expertise by providing ideas and by being able to work both independently and as a part of a Research & Development (R&D) team.
The work model for the role is:
This role is contributing to the Electrification business Smart Buildings division in Hyderabad, India.
You will be mainly accountable for:
ABB Smart Buildings enables optimization of energy efficiency, safety, security and comfort for
any building type, through new installations or retrofit solutions. The Division offers integrated digital technologies to control HVAC, lighting, shutters, and security, in addition to energy distribution solutions including DIN rail products, enclosures and emergency lighting through to industrial plugs and sockets and conventional wiring accessories, accommodating for single family homes, multiple dwellings, commercial buildings, infrastructure and industrial applications. The Division’s highly innovative technologies and digital solutions serve rising global demand among real estate developers, owners, and investors for smart building technologies that optimize energy distribution and building automation. The scalable solutions aim to deliver significant sustainable and financial benefits, meeting social and environmental demands, while being able to address even the most complex of customers’ carbon reduction strategies.

This role is contributing to the Electrification business Smart Buildings division in Hyderabad, India.
You will be mainly accountable for:
- Working as an independent and reliable contributor in R&D projects with limited supervision.
- Performing various tasks in the assigned area (e.g., mechanics, electronics, thermal, software), from building concepts, gathering requirements to designing, implementing, integrating, testing, technology transfer or maintenance, and operations.
- Understanding and applying applicable processes, standards, guidelines, and requirements, including architectural and design constraints.
- Driving the achievement of assigned targets (quality, time, scope, cost) and raising and addressing risks.
- A Bachelor’s degree in Electrical / Mechanical Engineering; or higher and 5-10 years Experience in mechanical and Postgraduate/bachelor’s degree in Tool design and engineering is preferred.
- Proven record of engineering analysis and design execution success min 8 years and Working knowledge of Change Management, Six Sigma and Design for Reliability processes
- Demonstrated experience in applying engineering fundamentals to resolve complex product performance, root cause analysis, and quality resolution issues
- Demonstrated ability to develop and execute project plans while delivering financial goals and Knowledge of product cost structure and Expertise in manufacturing/ production processes (PBCA, Plastic Inj. Molding, Sheet Metal, Tooling ,Castings ,Forgings)
- Exposure to LV Circuit Breakers and Switchgear; product design & development, quality, value engineering, costing of electrical.
- Strong organization and analytical competencies and Possess strong verbal and written communication skills with a proven ability to influence and drive change / results
- Demonstrated high level of motivation and resourcefulness, Ability to work in stress conditions and Strong team player and willingness to provide support to other team design activities
- Excellent interpersonal skill, and verbal written communication and presentation skills, Fluent in English, Working knowledge of CAD Software, costing Tools(aPriori) etc and Travel up to 25% may be required
