As per the responsibility designated, Vessel traffic controller's job accountabilities are as below:
- Maintain effective radio communication with all ships calling at the terminal
- Monitor vessel movement in the terminal area and issue instruction regarding berthing and un-berthing
- Intimate vessel movement plan to pilot, support crafts, agents, surveyors and other terminal personnel
- Monitor and intimate ETC, ETA to traffic scheduler for expediting vessel's movement
- Maintain records of vessels calling at the terminal
- Maintain a log of port closure, berth and crafts maintenance
- Prepare and circulate Port Status and Vessel status report
- Monitor closely SPM telemetry parameters of SPMs
- Monitor weather station and issue Navigational warnings
- To be in possession of valid GMDSS certificate issued by WPC, Ministry of Communications, India
- Work experience as radio officer on board ships, in port or in VTS for at least 1 year
- To have sound knowledge of navigation and communication equipment such as RADAR, ECDIS, VHF, AIS
- To have basic computer skills
- To have basic knowledge of terminal operations
- To be able to communicate in English
