Product Designer II
Microsoft
Date: 2 days ago
City: Hyderabad, Telangana
Contract type: Full time

Growth Design at Microsoft has one job: get more people to try, adopt, and build a Copilot daily habit that enhances their work experience. We do this through understanding user behavior and cognitive biases, challenging assumptions, and re-evaluating which onboarding and upsell patterns are truly effective. Working in a new product area requires humility and experimentation – we then dig deep on the ideas that resonate.
As a Product Designer II, you will partner closely with PMs and designers from other teams to understand the business goals, desired user behaviors, and constraints. While you will have the support of a design lead and mentors, you will also work with a high degree of independence. Advocating for your own understanding, as well as proactive communication are both critical – you will do a lot of question asking, convincing, and challenging.
You will split your time between two ‘modes’ of design - rapidly generating design explorations where the goal is to inspire, promote brainstorming and alignment; and digging deep to craft end-to-end experiences that balance ‘moving metrics’ and providing delightful, engaging, and trustworthy experiences. You will partner with content design and research to ensure that your designs are coherent and rooted in customer understanding. Much of your work will be self-directed; at the same time, you’ll need to stay in sync with teammates and feature crews.
Microsoft’s mission is to empower every person and every organization on the planet to achieve more. As employees we come together with a growth mindset, innovate to empower others, and collaborate to realize our shared goals. Each day we build on our values of respect, integrity, and accountability to create a culture of inclusion where everyone can thrive at work and beyond.
Responsibilities
Cross-Functional Collaboration: You will interact with product managers, engineers, data scientists, and executive stakeholders to define, iterate, and implement new and existing product features, ensuring alignment with business, technical, and user requirements. You will work with user researchers to coordinate testing efforts, interpret test results, and incorporate results into design efforts. Participate in and contribute to foundational research.
Compelling Communication & Storytelling: Start with the problem and requirements, then clearly articulate how and why design concepts and decisions solve that problem. You will share recommended solutions to cross functional partners and stakeholders, articulating design rationale clearly and effectively. You will frequently be working with other teams who have limited context and competing priorities.
Product thinking: Enthusiastically seeking to understand the broader context in which a product exists, including its users, market, and business goals. This means going beyond visual craft to consider how design decisions impact user experience, drive business outcomes, and solve real-world problems.
A portfolio review presentation is expected as part of the interview process for this role. Your presentation should showcase your work experience and demonstrate your design and storytelling skills, along with your authentic interest for the space through compelling communication.
