Position Summary
Level: Consultant or equivalent
As an experienced Consultant at Deloitte Consulting, you will be responsible for individually delivering high quality work products within due timelines. Need-basis you will be mentoring and/or directing junior team members/liaising with onsite/offshore teams to understand the functional requirements.
Work you’ll do:
Apply industry knowledge to requirements gathering and analysis, ensuring alignment with sector needs. Demonstrate expertise across the entire software development lifecycle, from design and coding to deployment and defect resolution, collaborating with stakeholders for effective delivery. Conduct peer and team reviews to maintain quality standards. Actively engage in Agile practices, including sprint planning, retrospectives, and effort estimation. Build and share business process knowledge, supporting project knowledge management and team training. Proactively recommend process improvements, track efficiency gains, and contribute to automation and innovation, all aimed at enhancing project outcomes and delivering greater value to clients.

Qualifications
Must Have Skills/Project Experience/Certifications:
- 3 - 6 years of hands-on experience in Java, J2EE, Springboot, Microservices
- Should have built scalable, reliable, and secure backend services and APIs using Java and Spring Boot. Should be proficient in well-known AWS services (e.g. EC2, S3, SQS, SNS, RDS etc.). Should have the ability to suggest the suitable services to be used to achieve a given cloud based functionality.
- Good understanding of Object-Oriented Programming concepts:
- Design, build, enhance, and maintain robust mainframe applications (COBOL, JCL, DB2, CICS, VSAM).
- Analyze complex business requirements and architect scalable technical solutions.
- Lead code reviews, set coding standards, and oversee the output of junior developers.
- Troubleshoot, optimize, and maintain mainframe programs to ensure performance and reliability.
- Advanced proficiency in COBOL, JCL, DB2, CICS, and VSAM.
- Strong familiarity with debugging tools (File-Aid, Xpeditor, Abend-AID), schedulers, and source/version control (Endevor, Changeman).
- Deep analytical and troubleshooting skills for production, performance, and reliability issues.
- Solid grasp of SDLC, Agile, and DevOps as applied to mainframe environments.
- Excellent communication and documentation skills.
- Proven ability to lead technical teams and manage deliverables under tight deadlines.
- Commitment to ongoing professional growth and staying current with mainframe modernization.
- Should have worked with Agile methodology and aware of best practices:
- Awareness of core principles, and application in projects
- Able to compare between traditional models with Agile and justify Agile adaptation
- Explain important Agile Metrics - velocity, cycle time, burndown charts etc. and usage of the same for process improvement
- Able to explain Sprint ceremonies and estimation process followed in the current project
- Should be able to explain the business impact of the project he is currently working on
- Strong have good communication skills, experienced with direct client interactions
- For a given scenario, ability to come up with the right questions to be asked to the client to remove ambiguity
- Usage of right words
- Should be able to explain the key concepts, challenges and trends in the industry aligned to current project and have understanding of technology disruptors specific to the industry
- Should be a good team player. Able to work closely with other developers, designers, project managers, and cross-functional teams to deliver integrated solutions.
- Experience in mainframe migration, DevOps, or cloud modernization initiatives.
- Expertise in advanced DB2 tuning, batch optimization, or automation (REXX, MQ, scripting).
- Demonstrated leadership in mentorship, process improvement, and stakeholder management.
- Good grasp of AI concepts and recent trends:
- Able to explain concepts related to Natural Language Processing (NLP), Machine Learning, Deep Learning, Computer Vision etc.
- Able to think about practical project ideas and suggest implementation strategies
- Hands-on experience in AI – Basic understanding of concepts related to Machine Learning (ML), Deep Learning, Natural Language Processing (NLP), Computer Vision etc.
- Awareness / hands-on experience on the following tools/ frameworks
- Python, TensorFlow and PyTorch, Scikit-learn, NLP Libraries
- Awareness of recent industry specific events and able to explain their impact on the work that he has been doing.
- BE/B.Tech/M.C.A./M.Sc (CS) degree or equivalent from accredited university
- Bengaluru/Hyderabad/Pune/Chennai/Kolkata
