Mission

The mission of Laboratory Manager is to lead the team to achieve excellence in every aspect of laboratory operational work. The mission is to ensure the highest standards of quality, efficiency, and compliance while fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.

Leadership and Team Management

  • Conduct regular team meetings to communicate goals, share updates, and address any concerns or challenges. Assign duties and responsibilities to laboratory staff based on their expertise and workload.
  • Conduct performance evaluations and set clear goals for individual team members to promote growth and accountability. Provide ongoing feedback, coaching, and training to enhance team performance and professional development.
  • Address conflicts or issues within the team promptly and impartially, promoting open communication and collaboration.

Laboratory Operations Management

  • Manage laboratory workflow and processes to identify areas for improvement and efficiency gains. Implement workflow/ process modifications to streamline operations and reduce turnaround times.
  • Ensure adherence to sample receiving guidelines, including proper labeling and documentation of essential clinical information. Supervise physical analysis of samples, verifying accuracy and completeness of barcoding, volume measurements, and identification of clotting or hemolysis. Oversee the process of result interpretation, ensuring compliance with laid processes such as recheck criteria, AMR/CRR, critical values, and result correlation. Review and approve procedures for control data analysis, troubleshooting for outliers, and logging corrective actions.
  • Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) such as sample throughput, TAT (Turn-Around Time), and error rates to assess effectiveness of changes. Identify opportunities for improvement based on data analysis and feedback from team and stakeholders.
  • Manage staffing levels and roasters to ensure adequate coverage and optimal utilization of resources.
  • Monitor inventory levels of reagents, supplies, and equipment and coordinate with Supply Chain team to maintain adequate stock levels. Implement inventory control measures to minimize waste and reduce costs while ensuring uninterrupted laboratory operations.
  • Implement cost optimization strategies to manage operations profitably, identifying opportunities for cost-saving measures.

Quality Assurance and Compliance

  • Conduct regular internal audits to assess compliance with quality standards and identify areas for improvement.
  • Coordinate external audits and inspections by accrediting bodies and address any findings or deficiencies promptly.
  • Establish and monitor quality control procedures for all laboratory tests and processes. Review and analyze QC data to ensure accuracy and reliability of test results.
  • Implement corrective actions and preventive measures to address deviations and maintain quality standards.
  • Ensure department documentation is complete and up-to-date, including SOPs, protocols, and quality control records. Verify the accuracy of laboratory result documentation and retention, overseeing proper storage and accessibility of records.

Equipment and Facility Management

  • Develop and implement a preventive maintenance schedule for all laboratory equipment. Coordinate with maintenance technicians or vendors to perform routine maintenance and calibration tasks.
  • Document all maintenance activities and equipment performance in a maintenance log for record-keeping and traceability.
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations and guidelines to maintain a safe working environment for laboratory staff. Conduct regular audits of laboratory facilities and equipment to identify hazards or potential safety issues.
  • Review and update facility housekeeping processes, ensuring compliance with safety and first aid protocols.
  • Execute contingency plans and protocols for managing laboratory operations during crisis situations.

Communication and Collaboration

  • Collaborate with other departments (e.g., IT, Supply Chain, Business team) to address cross-functional issues and achieve shared goals. Facilitate communication and information sharing between team to promote efficiency and teamwork.
  • Communicate regularly with healthcare providers, clinicians, and external stakeholders to understand their needs and expectations.
  • Gather feedback and input from stakeholders to identify areas for improvement and enhance service delivery.
