Job Summary
As an Incoming Wafer Inspection Engineer, you will be responsible for ensuring that all incoming wafers and related materials meet defined quality specifications and customer requirements. This role involves conducting detailed inspections, implementing quality control procedures, analyzing inspection data, and collaborating with suppliers to resolve non-conformances. You will serve as a key interface between supplier quality engineering, procurement, and production teams, ensuring that only compliant wafers enter the manufacturing process and that supplier performance continuously improves.
Key Responsibilities
As an Incoming Wafer Inspection Engineer, you will be responsible for ensuring that all incoming wafers and related materials meet defined quality specifications and customer requirements. This role involves conducting detailed inspections, implementing quality control procedures, analyzing inspection data, and collaborating with suppliers to resolve non-conformances. You will serve as a key interface between supplier quality engineering, procurement, and production teams, ensuring that only compliant wafers enter the manufacturing process and that supplier performance continuously improves.
Key Responsibilities
- Inspection and Verification
- Perform detailed inspections of incoming wafers against purchase orders, engineering drawings, and quality specifications.
- Use advanced inspection methods (visual, dimensional, and functional testing) to verify wafer quality and compliance.
- Utilize precision measuring tools, metrology equipment, and automated inspection systems to validate critical dimensions and parameters.
- Identify, document, and escalate defects or non-conformances found during inspection.
- Documentation and Reporting
- Generate comprehensive inspection reports, including non-conformance reports (NCRs), with supporting data and images.
- Maintain accurate and traceable records of inspection results and supplier performance metrics.
- Ensure quality documentation and databases are updated in accordance with quality management system requirements.
- Quality Control Procedures
- Develop and enforce incoming wafer inspection procedures, including sampling plans and acceptance criteria.
- Monitor supplier quality trends, analyze performance data, and identify areas requiring corrective or preventive action.
- Collaborate with suppliers and Supplier Quality Engineers (SQEs) to resolve quality issues and drive improvements in incoming material quality.
- Communication and Collaboration
- Communicate inspection findings and quality concerns to internal stakeholders including production, engineering, and procurement teams.
- Partner with cross-functional teams to address recurring issues, implement corrective actions, and prevent recurrence.
- Participate in supplier audits and reviews, contributing to supplier development and quality improvement initiatives.
- Education:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field.
- Experience:
- Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in the semiconductor industry, preferably in wafer inspection, incoming quality control, or supplier quality engineering.
- Technical Expertise:
- Strong knowledge of quality control methodologies, metrology, and statistical analysis techniques.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting semiconductor wafer specifications, engineering drawings, and process requirements.
- Hands-on experience with inspection techniques and measurement equipment used in wafer inspection.
- Familiarity with semiconductor backend processes and common defect types.
- Skills:
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills to work with internal teams and suppliers.
- Knowledge of quality management systems such as ISO 9001; familiarity with IATF 16949 is an advantage.
