Job Description

Role: Head Engineering

Designation: Assistant / Deputy General Manager

Location: Chennai

Experience: 15+ years

Industry: Metal and Mining

Educational Qualification: Bachelor / Masters in Engineering

Employment Type: Permanent

Skill Required

  • Experience in design engineering of Heavy industry or process industry plants & mechanical equipment design
  • Strong understanding of the overall project engineering process and design calculations.
  • Thorough knowledge of fabrication and manufacturing standards and procedures.
  • In-depth knowledge of softwares such as Autocad, PDMS, Tekla, Staad Pro etc.
  • Knowledge of SAP, MS Office, Advanced Excel, MS Projects etc is desirable.
  • Demonstration of excellent customer service, negotiating, persuasion and conflict resolution skills required
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Proven leadership ability
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to details.

Duties And Responsibilities

  • Schedules design deliverables in line with submission schedule and customer commitments
  • Closely monitors progress of Mechanical design work and reschedules as per project requirements
  • Checks accuracy of mechanical designs before they are submitted to Manufacturer for production
  • Responsible for detailed design for manufacturing
  • Coordinates with HQ for Basic Design
  • Ensures effective allocation of resources for onshore and offshore design engineering work
  • Guides Mechanical design engineers and draughtsman to ensure design deliverables as per project requirements
  • Facilitates preparation of technical specifications for mechanical equipment / plant.
  • Provides Tendering support to Marketing department, as and when required
  • Provides technical support to Inspection department before, during and after Inspection, for the purpose of Manufacturing clearance
  • Provides technical evaluation to Purchase department for negotiating with suppliers for materials
  • Drives Quality culture within the team
  • Helps in development of internal working standards and ensures compliance
  • Drives Operational Excellence within own team through activities including cost optimization and design improvements
  • Attends all project related internal meetings as per requirement
  • Attends important customer/ consultant meetings for finalization of Drawings
  • Plans engineer visits to site for Erection and Commissioning work and provides technical support to sites on ongoing basis
