Description

Job Summary:

As a participant in a formal apprenticeship or regional training program, this role assists senior team members in learning and developing skills in HVAC and mechanical services, maintenance, and support for facilities operations. The Facilities Technician works under moderate supervision and helps ensure safe, efficient facility operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Safety & Compliance:
  • Maintain safe work habits; proactively identify and address potential safety issues in reactive, planned, and preventative maintenance.
  • Ensure adherence to all HSE policies, procedures, and legal requirements, planning all tasks with safety as a top priority.
  • Maintenance & Repairs:
  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair malfunctioning systems and components, utilizing test equipment and hand tools.
  • Conduct equipment breakdown resolutions and prioritize getting machinery back in service promptly.
  • Develop and follow maintenance procedures and checklists to promote efficient and safe equipment operations.
  • Track, prioritize, and assign reactive, planned, and preventative maintenance tasks through software and building management systems.
  • Operations Management:
  • Support continuous facility operations by managing shift schedules and ensuring uninterrupted utility services.
  • Guide and support technicians in utility operations, equipment maintenance, and troubleshooting.
  • Oversee utilities, including heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems, boilers, cooling towers, air compressors, and related mechanical equipment to meet facility needs.
  • Process & Project Improvement:
  • Identify and implement projects focused on water and energy conservation.
  • Participate in site improvement initiatives and use problem-solving techniques in team settings.
  • Inventory & Budget Management:
  • Monitor maintenance expenses and control budgets; manage procurement and inventory of spare parts to ensure operational efficiency.
  • Maintain records of all maintenance activities, parts usage, and expenses to support asset management.
  • Emergency Preparedness:
  • Plan and manage site emergency preparedness, covering risks related to power outages, floods, and fires, and maintaining emergency systems.

Education, Licenses, Certifications

  • Required: High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Apprenticeship Requirement: Must meet minimum educational requirements for apprenticeship or regional program enrollment and pass all related testing.
  • Preferred: Diploma in Mechanical or related field.

Experience

  • Intermediate-level experience or equivalent training required, with a minimum of 6 years in utilities operation and maintenance.
  • Junior Shop Manager experience required.

  • Adaptability: Flexible across multiple shifts to support 24/7 facility operations.
