Job Description

As a Design Engineer, you will work on studio property setup, ensuring integrity, content, data pedigree, ride height, manikin drop, and overall suitability. You will create Pedestrian Protection Studies on studio-released programs and support the safety team in providing PEDPRO zones and lines concerning GNCAP and GTR regulations. You will lead the co-creation with Engineering & Manufacturing to converge program, attribute, and functional inputs into Class A design surfaces by blending them into highly integrated 3D CAD concepts that deliver a feasible styling theme meeting design intent. Additionally, you will coordinate the design theme feasibility progression and resolution to meet studio release and approval timing requirements and guide initial theme setup and development through or in advance of functional, supplier, and attribute inputs.

Responsibilities

• Work on studio property setup, ensuring integrity, content, data pedigree, ride height, manikin drop, and overall suitability.
• Create Pedestrian Protection Studies on studio-released programs.
• Support the safety team in providing PEDPRO zones and lines concerning GNCAP and GTR regulations.
• Lead the co-creation with Engineering & Manufacturing to converge program, attribute, and functional inputs into Class A design surfaces by blending them into highly integrated 3D CAD concepts.

Essential Skills

• Strong design acuity and innovation mindset to define and propose new and innovative solutions in CAD.
• Support ad-hoc projects and processes with respect to studio, design quality, color & material, data coordination with studio, surface modeling, and CAD process.
• Manage design studio product structure and data within, into, and out of the studio.
• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent practical experience.
• Ability to concept surface and engineering proposals in CATIA.
• Technical know-how of CAVA Tool, Teamcenter, Vis-Mockup, Vehicle Architecture, and Design Quality Concepts.
• Awareness of Pedestrian Protection, ECE R21 & R26 Regulations, GLOBAL NCAP/GTR Regulations, and Global Homologation Standards.
• 5+ years of outstanding design, packaging, and 3D CATIA/3Dx modeling skills.
• Familiarity with plastics design, vehicle layout/packaging, body and trim, production processes, latest automotive trends, regulations, and consumer ratings.
  
  

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Hands-on experience in narrowing product scope and facilitating decisions on complex products, including leading and presenting to decision-making forums.
• Big picture mindset and passion for engineering innovative, breakthrough, and class-leading products.
• Ability to visualize new and potential designs in VRED or equivalent software to convey design intent and usability.
• Demonstrated experience in design studio procedures and progression, with the ability to provide a creative and engineering focus to enable creative vehicle-level solutions and alternatives.
  
  

Work Environment

You will work in a dynamic studio environment, utilizing advanced technologies such as CATIA, CAVA Tool, Teamcenter, Vis-Mockup, and VRED. The role involves collaboration with engineering and manufacturing teams, and requires adherence to stringent design quality and safety regulations. The work environment supports innovative thinking and problem-solving to achieve breakthrough automotive designs.
