Context

In India, SYSTRA is an international consulting and engineering company operating in the fields of Metros, High Speed Rail, Railways, Roads, Buildings, Urban planning, and Water Infrastructure for public and private organizations.

We are seeking applications for the position of Commercial Legal Manager for PMC for upcoming infrastructure development project in Gujarat.

Missions/Main Duties

Legal & Contractual Management

• Draft, review, negotiate, and finalize project agreements: EPC, design, consultancy, construction, supplier, subcontractor, joint venture, and partnership contracts.
• Ensure contracts comply with relevant legal, regulatory, and company standards.
• Monitor contract implementation and manage any amendments or variations.
  
  

Risk Management

• Identify and assess legal/commercial risks at every phase of the project—procurement, construction, commissioning, operation.
• Develop risk mitigation strategies and ensure timely escalation of issues where necessary.
  
  

Compliance

• Advise project teams on statutory and regulatory requirements relating to land acquisition, environmental impact, health & safety, procurement, and labor.
• Ensure project activities conform to both local and international legal obligations.
  
  

Dispute Resolution

• Lead pre-litigation case assessment, manage claims and variations, and liaise with external counsel in case of disputes, litigation, or arbitration.
• Support negotiations to resolve conflicts with clients, contractors, vendors, and regulatory agencies.
  
  

Stakeholder Advisory

• Serve as the main contact for legal and commercial advice to project directors/managers, finance, procurement, and engineering teams.
• Coordinate with government agencies, municipalities, and legal advisors.
  
  

Documentation & Reporting

• Maintain complete and organized records of all legal documents, contracts, and correspondences.
• Prepare regular legal risk assessments and compliance reports for the project leadership.
  
  

Policy & Governance

• Develop, update, and implement project-specific legal procedures and best practices.
• Deliver training to project teams on legal awareness and compliance standards as required.
  
  

Profile/Skills

• Minimum of 15 years of overall experience with a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience.
• Bachelor's in law/commerce.
• Post Graduation in Law with specialization in construction engineering law and contracts.
• Large Infrastructure Project like, Smart Cities/Industrial town ships/Residential Townships/Hospitals/SEZ (Special Economic Zone/Public Buildings).
• Experience of working as Commercial Legal Manager on at least 1 large infrastructure project of value more than Rs.1000 crores.
