NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde is one of the largest healthcare systems in the UK employing around 40,000 staff in a wide range of clinical and non-clinical professions and job roles. The shift pattern for this post is Monday to Friday 8.30am to 4.30pm with an additional out of hours commitment.
Applications are invited from enthusiastic and motivated candidates for the full time post of Specialist Biomedical /Clinical Scientist within the Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics (H&I) Laboratory.
Serving The West Of Scotland
The H&I Laboratory is located at Gartnavel General Hospital, Glasgow and is within the Diagnostics Directorate of NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde Health Board. The Laboratory provides an H&I service to support the following clinical programmes:
Adult renal transplantation
Disease association
Serving All Of Scotland
Paediatric haematopoietic progenitor c
ell transplantation
Adult haematopoietic progenitor cell transplantation
Paediatric renal transplantation
Adult cardiac transplantation.
The successful applicant will provide a highly specialised, quality service by performing molecular biology techniques for HLA typing and immunological methods for HLA antibody testing and crossmatching. The scientist will also analyse, interpret and report test results.
Participation in an out-of-hours on-call rota to support solid organ transplantation is mandatory.
Training and continuing professional development is actively encouraged.
Qualifications essential for this post are an Honours degree in a biological subject. You must also be state registered (or have an application pending) as a Biomedical Scientist or Clinical Scientist with the Health & Care Professions Council.
