About Our Team

The Customer Service Desk (CSD) function is part of Elsevier’s WDOT (WORKs Domain Operations Team) within the Research Data Platform (RDP) organization. CSD reviews and resolves valid content-related requests for Scopus, including missing content, metadata corrections, citation-link corrections, and retractions. The team ensures records are complete, accurate, and correctly linked. Operating through a two-tier support model (1LS/2LS), CSD works with content suppliers, Publisher Relations (PRM), Supplier Operations Manager (SOM), and Elsevier’s OpsBank technical teams to maintain trusted Scopus records for the global research community.

About The Role

As a Subject Matter Expert – Data Curation, you will provide deep technical expertise to resolve valid content-related requests impacting Scopus, including missing content, metadata corrections, citation-link corrections, and retractions. You will act as the 2LS expert and escalation point for complex curation cases, serving as the key authority on OpsBankII, the Bulk Correction Portal, and BACCS tools used to correct records. You will ensure each case is curated accurately and within SLA, improve correction and curation processes, and strengthen the wider CSD/WDOT team’s data-curation capability through documentation and mentoring.

Responsibilities

• Investigate and resolve escalated content-related requests, including missing content, data corrections, and non-Scopus or BDContent queries.
• Coordinate with content suppliers to obtain missing articles or issues and ensure delivery through OBII.
• Create and manage article-level and bulk metadata correction orders in OpsBankII or through bulk scripts.
• Route invalid or out-of-scope queries to the right team and liaise with Elsevier technical teams on OBII and Scopus issues.
• Execute bulk metadata corrections using the OpsBankII Bulk Correction Portal and resolve script or execution errors as per SOP.
• Perform citation-link corrections using BACCS, including force linking, force unlinking, and status checks.
• Maintain source-level updates and resolve bridge issues between VTW, OBII, and Scopus records.
• Ensure quality, SLA, KPI, reporting, process improvement, SOP documentation, and mentoring support for curation activities.
  
  

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in information science, publishing, data management, or a related field.
• 5+ years of experience in content/data operations, scholarly publishing, or metadata curation.
• Hands-on experience with OpsBankII/OBII, the Bulk Correction Portal, BACCS, or similar citation-linking tools.
• Strong knowledge of Scopus or similar bibliographic database structures, including articles, issues, source records, and citations.
• Expert-level experience in missing-content, metadata-correction, and citation-correction workflows.
• Ability to manage retraction handling and coordinate with CSD, PRM, SDM, and OpsBank technical teams.
• Strong attention to detail, quality focus, and ability to manage SLA-bound deliverables and rework processes.
• Ability to triage complex escalations, document SOPs, improve processes, and communicate with suppliers and stakeholders.
