Overview:

As a Senior Software Engineer – Java, you will be a strong individual contributor who designs, implements, and maintains high‑quality, secure, and performant services, owns complex features from design through production, and helps elevate engineering practices within your team. This role is positioned at the Senior level in our Software Engineering career ladder, with expectations around deep technical expertise, strong execution, effective collaboration across teams, and mentoring less‑experienced engineers.

Responsibilities:

• Design, develop, test, deploy, and maintain Java‑based services and APIs that power BHN’s payment, rewards, and commerce platforms, following our CI/CD and code quality practices.
• Translate product requirements into well‑scoped technical designs, contribute to architecture discussions, and implement solutions that are simple, reliable, and secure.
• Own the end‑to‑end lifecycle of features: design, implementation, automated testing, deployment, monitoring, and production support (including participation in on‑call rotations where applicable).
• Improve code quality and maintainability through meaningful code reviews, refactoring, documentation, and adherence to team standards.
• Work closely with product managers, architects, QA, and fellow engineers to refine requirements, estimate effort, and deliver high‑quality increments in an agile environment.
• Contribute to operational excellence by enhancing observability, performance, resiliency, and incident response for the services you own.
• Mentor and support Software Engineers and Software Engineer II team members through pairing, design guidance, and feedback, reinforcing BHN’s “no fear, no blame” engineering culture.
  
  

Qualifications:

• 4+ years of professional software development experience, with a strong track record of delivering and supporting backend services (aligned with BHN’s Senior Software Engineer level).
• Solid expertise in Java (11+) and Spring / Spring Boot, including building RESTful microservices and integrating with internal and external APIs.
• Experience with relational databases (e.g., MySQL, PostgreSQL) including data modeling, query optimization, and transaction handling.
• Practical experience with cloud‑hosted applications, preferably on AWS (e.g., ECS/EKS, RDS, S3, load balancers, IAM).
• Strong understanding of software engineering fundamentals: data structures, algorithms, concurrency, performance, and secure coding practices.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines, automated testing (unit, integration), and modern development workflows (Git, code reviews, trunk‑based or feature branching).
• Ability to collaborate effectively in a cross‑functional, global team, communicate clearly, and provide constructive feedback in design and code reviews.
  

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in payments, fintech, incentives, rewards, or other regulated financial services domains, with familiarity around security, compliance, and auditing requirements.
• Exposure to event‑driven or message‑based architectures and distributed systems patterns.
• Hands‑on experience improving observability and reliability (metrics, logs, traces, alerting, runbooks).
• Prior experience mentoring junior engineers and contributing to team‑level process and quality improvements.
