IT Infrastructure Support Engineer

StellarEdge Brokers

Date: 5 hours ago
City: Surat, Gujarat
Contract type: Full time
This is a mission-critical, hands-on role. Stock broking operations run on tight regulatory timelines — market open, T+1 settlement, end-of-day reporting. Downtime is not an option. We need someone who fixes problems, not someone who escalates them.

About The Role

Stellaredge runs a technology-first brokerage. Every client order, every payout, every compliance report, every reconciliation — all of it depends on stable, performant infrastructure. This role owns that infrastructure: networks, servers, trading applications, and the monitoring systems that keep everything observable.

You will be the first responder when something breaks at 9:14 AM during market hours. You will be the person who ensures the OMS is up before 9:00 AM. You will be the one who knows exactly what is running, where it is running, and what to do when it is not. This is not a helpdesk role. It is a technical ownership role with real operational stakes.

What Makes This Role Different in a Broking Environment

  • Market hours are fixed — 9:15 AM to 3:30 PM. Any infrastructure failure during this window has direct financial and regulatory consequences. Uptime is not an SLA metric here, it is a compliance requirement.
  • Trading applications (OMS, RMS) have strict latency and availability requirements set by exchanges and SEBI — standard IT support thinking is insufficient.
  • End-of-day processes (settlement files, reconciliation uploads, CDSL/NSDL submissions) have hard cutoff times. A server delay at 6 PM can cascade into a regulatory breach.
  • You will work alongside compliance, DP operations, and finance teams — understanding what their applications actually do operationally is part of doing this job well.

Key Responsibilities

Network Infrastructure

  • Own and manage the office LAN/WAN setup — switches, routers, firewalls, and VLANs
  • Configure and maintain leased line, broadband failover, and VPN connections
  • Monitor network performance and proactively resolve latency, packet loss, or bandwidth issues
  • Manage firewall rules, access control lists, and network segmentation for security compliance
  • Ensure dedicated, low-latency connectivity for trading terminals and OMS/RMS applications
  • Manage Wi-Fi infrastructure and ensure segregated access for staff, trading systems, and guests

Server & System Administration

  • Manage Windows Server and Linux (Ubuntu/CentOS) environments — installation, configuration, patching, and maintenance
  • Administer Active Directory: user accounts, group policies, access controls, and audit logs
  • Manage on-premise servers and co-location/cloud instances (AWS/Azure) for trading applications
  • Perform regular backup operations, verify restore procedures, and maintain disaster recovery readiness
  • Monitor server health — CPU, memory, disk, and process utilisation — and respond to threshold breaches
  • Manage virtualisation environments (VMware / Hyper-V) where applicable
  • Maintain hardware inventory, warranty tracking, and lifecycle management

Trading Application Support

  • Provide Level 1 and Level 2 support for OMS (Order Management System) and RMS (Risk Management System)
  • Coordinate with exchange-certified vendors (NSE/BSE application providers) for upgrades, patches, and issue resolution
  • Manage CTCL/IBAPI/FIX connectivity with NSE, BSE, MCX, and NCDEX as applicable
  • Monitor pre-market system checks and ensure all trading applications are live and responsive before 9:00 AM
  • Support Backoffice software (Finacle, TBMS, or brokerage-specific platforms) — user provisioning, access management, and first-level troubleshooting
  • Maintain application configuration files, log management, and version control for all trading systems
  • Coordinate with exchange IT helpdesks for TM-related technical issues and connectivity certifications

Monitoring, Security & Compliance

  • Set up and maintain monitoring dashboards for all critical systems — alerts, uptime tracking, and incident logs
  • Implement and maintain endpoint security: antivirus, patch management, and device control policies
  • Ensure IT infrastructure meets SEBI cybersecurity framework requirements (SEBI Circular dated Sep 2023)
  • Conduct periodic vulnerability assessments and maintain audit trails for access and configuration changes
  • Manage SSL certificates, domain renewals, and DNS configurations
  • Prepare IT infrastructure reports for internal audits and SEBI/exchange inspections
  • Maintain an up-to-date IT asset register and network topology document

Requirements

Must Have

  • 2-5 years of hands-on IT infrastructure experience — servers, networks, and application support
  • Windows Server administration: Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP, IIS
  • Linux administration (Ubuntu or CentOS/RHEL): command line, services, cron, logs
  • Networking fundamentals: TCP/IP, VLANs, routing, firewall rules, VPN configuration
  • Experience with Cisco or equivalent managed switches and enterprise routers
  • Proven troubleshooting methodology — structured, fast, and calm under pressure
  • Ability to write clear incident reports and maintain IT documentation

Strong Advantage

  • Prior experience supporting a SEBI-registered broker, exchange member, or fintech firm
  • Familiarity with OMS/RMS platforms: ODIN, NOW, Nest, Omnesys, or similar
  • CTCL/IBAPI setup and NSE/BSE connectivity management
  • Cloud administration: AWS EC2/RDS/S3 or Azure VM/storage basics
  • Virtualisation: VMware ESXi or Hyper-V administration
  • CCNA or equivalent networking certification
  • Experience with monitoring tools: Nagios, Zabbix, Grafana, or PRTG

Education

  • B.E. / B.Tech in Computer Science, IT, or Electronics — preferred
  • BCA / MCA / B.Sc (IT/CS) with strong hands-on infrastructure experience accepted
  • CCNA, MCSA, RHCSA, or equivalent certifications are a significant positive signal
  • Graduates from Surat-based engineering colleges (SVNIT, Nirma, DPIAICT, VGEC) are specifically encouraged to apply

What We Evaluate

Green Flags

  • Has worked in a time-critical environment — bank, broker, exchange, or any firm where downtime has immediate business consequences
  • Can describe a specific network or server incident they resolved under pressure — what failed, how they diagnosed it, and how long it took
  • Thinks in redundancy and fallback — always asks 'what happens if this goes down?'
  • Comfortable with command line on both Windows and Linux — doesn't rely only on GUIs
  • Has set up monitoring before, not just responded to alerts someone else configured
  • Understands the difference between a trading application and a regular business application in terms of availability requirements
  • CCNA or server certification achieved through actual study, not just exam dumps

Red Flags

  • Only has helpdesk or desktop support experience — no server or network ownership
  • Cannot explain a basic network topology or describe what a VLAN does
  • Escalates everything — no evidence of independent problem resolution
  • Has never worked under time pressure; treats all incidents as equal priority
  • Cannot read a server log or interpret a traceroute / ping output to diagnose a network issue
  • No documentation discipline — has never maintained a network diagram or IT asset register
  • Treats this as a 9-to-5 role — trading support has irregular hours around market events

Interview Process

We evaluate for real hands-on ability. Certifications matter less than demonstrated competence. The process is practical and direct.

  • Round 1 — Async written screening: 3 scenario-based questions — a network issue, a server crash, and a trading application failure (48-hr turnaround; how you think matters as much as the answer)
  • Round 2 — 45-min technical interview with IT Lead or Founder: deep-dive on past infrastructure work, tools used, incidents handled — bring specifics
  • Round 3 — Practical assessment (in-person): hands-on diagnostic exercise — you will be given a network/server scenario and asked to work through it live
  • Round 4 — 20-min final conversation with Operations Lead or Founder: work style, reliability, long-term alignment
