The Role

Your role
Bring your specialist knowledge and experience to a company managing 50% of the world’s MIPS and play a critical role in our modernization mission. You’ll be in good company among our global community of experts leading the future of mainframe modernization. Experts who share knowledge openly and collaborate freely.

In this role, you’ll design, build and maintain the high-volume business logic that runs on the mainframe. At the same time you’ll play a key role in refactoring legacy code to enable modern cloud and mobile applications to seamlessly interact with the mainframe’s core data.

Key Responsibilities
Automation & Configuration Management
Design, develop, and maintain Ansible playbooks, roles, and automation workflows for large-scale, multi-environment deployments.
Build reusable automation frameworks to standardize provisioning, configuration, and patching processes.
Optimize existing Ansible scripts and convert manual processes into automated pipelines.
Implement automated compliance, drift detection, and self-healing mechanisms where feasible. DevOps Engineering
Develop and maintain CI/CD pipelines using tools such as VS Code, Azure DevOps or GitHub.
Manage end-to-end release automation, branch strategies, artifact management, and deployment orchestration.
Work closely with Development, QA, and Cloud teams to ensure reliable, fast, and secure software delivery.
Integrate security controls into DevOps workflows. Cloud & Infrastructure Operations
Support infrastructure provisioning using IaC tools such as Ansible Automation Platform (AAP).
Manage deployments across hybrid cloud/on-prem environments (Azure, Windows, Linux-based systems).
Implement monitoring, alerting, and observability solutions for automated environments. SQL Engineering & SME-Level Expertise
Serve as the subject matter expert for SQL performance tuning, query optimization, indexing, partitioning, and data modelling.
Automate database deployment and maintenance tasks, including schema updates, replication setup, and backup routines. Troubleshoot complex SQL-related issues and support application teams with optimized data access patterns.
Develop automation to support DB upgrades, migrations, and baseline enforcement. Collaboration, Governance & Best Practices
Partner with architecture, security, and delivery teams to define automation standards and reusable templates.
Promote and enforce best practices in DevOps, SQL engineering, and infrastructure automation.
Maintain detailed technical documentation, SOPs, and runbooks.
Provide mentorship to junior engineers and support cross-team technical enablement.

• Prevent decay and find efficiencies: Monitor the architecture and identify opportunities to optimize code to maintain and enhance mainframe performance.

Debug and Test

• Find and fix: Debug, troubleshoot, and analyze complex system interactions to keep mission-critical applications running.

Develop for the Future

• Bridge the gap: As an instrumental player in modernization, you’ll extract business logic from legacy systems for migration or integration with cloud-based services.

Required Skills & Qualifications Technical Skills

• Strong hands-on expertise in Ansible (playbooks, roles, inventories, AAP/Tower, Ansible Galaxy).

• Solid experience with CI/CD tools (VS Code, Ansible, Azure DevOps).

• Proficiency in scripting languages: Python, Powershell, Bash, YAML.

• Strong knowledge of Linux and Windows administration and server hardening.

• Expert-level SQL skills: Query tuning , Index optimization, Stored procedures & triggers, Data architecture fundamentals, Cross-platform (PostgreSQL, SQL Server preferred).

• Experience with IaC tools (Ansible, VS Code) is a plus.

• Familiarity with cloud environments (Azure preferred). Understanding of networking fundamentals, firewalls, load balancers, and VPNs. Soft Skills

• Strong analytical mindset for troubleshooting complex automation & SQL issues.

• Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and cross-functional collaboration skills.

• Ability to work independently and deliver with minimal supervision.

• High ownership, accountability, and structured problem-solving ability.

• Experience Requirements

• 5–9 years of total experience for L3/L4 levels.

• Proven experience in automation engineering, DevOps practices, and SQL tuning.

• Exposure to enterprise-scale environments, multi-team collaboration, and production-grade automation.

Preferred Skills:

• Red Hat Ansible Automation Certification

• Azure DevOps Certifications

• Kubernetes (CKA/CKAD) certification

• SQL database certifications (Microsoft, PostgreSQL)
