Job Purpose

The Consultant Nephrologist is responsible for the prevention, diagnosis, and medical management of acute and chronic kidney diseases, fluid-electrolyte imbalances, and hypertension. This role oversees critical renal replacement therapies—including hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis—and leads or collaborates on pre- and post-operative care for renal transplant patients.

Key Responsibilities

• Clinical Nephrology Management:

  • Diagnose and medically treat clinical conditions such as Acute Kidney Injury (AKI), Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD), Glomerulonephritis, Nephrotic Syndrome, and secondary kidney damage from Diabetes and Hypertension
  • Manage resistant hypertension, complex fluid-electrolyte disorders, and acid-base disturbances

• Renal Replacement Therapy (RRT) & Dialysis:

  • Oversee the operations and clinical protocols of the Hemodialysis and Peritoneal Dialysis units, ensuring optimal adequacy of dialysis and managing long-term complications
  • Prescribe and supervise continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT) or sustained low-efficiency dialysis (SLED) for critically ill patients in the ICU

• Interventional Nephrology Procedures:

  • Perform bedside or ultrasound-guided procedures including percutaneous native and transplant kidney biopsies
  • Insert temporary and tunneled (PermCath) dialysis catheters under aseptic conditions

• Renal Transplantation:

  • Conduct comprehensive pre-transplant workups and donor-recipient cross-matching evaluation
  • Lead the post-transplant medical management, designing immunosuppressive regimens and monitoring for acute/chronic graft rejection
• Multidisciplinary Alignment: Collaborate closely with Vascular Surgeons (for AV fistula creation), Urologists (for transplant surgery and obstructive uropathy), Intensive Care specialists, and Renal Dietitians

Qualifications & Requirements

• Core Education:

  • MD / DNB in General Medicine or Pediatrics from a recognized institute
  • DM / DNB / DrNB in Nephrology from an NMC/MCI recognized university or tertiary care center

• Experience:

  • Junior Consultant: 0–3 years of post-DM/DNB experience, with solid confidence in independent catheter insertions and dialysis unit management
  • Senior Consultant: 5+ years of experience with a high case volume, specifically showcasing independent management of renal transplant registries and complex ICU nephrology
• Licensure: Valid registration with the National Medical Commission (NMC) / Medical Council of India (MCI) or the respective State Medical Council

Key Skills & Competencies

• High technical precision in performing kidney biopsies and central venous access under ultrasound guidance
• Strong analytical capacity to interpret complex renal histopathology, metabolic panels, and immunological profiles
• Decisive action-planning for handling acute medical emergencies like hyperkalemia, severe fluid overload, or acute graft dysfunction
• Empathetic communication to counsel and support patients navigating lifelong chronic illness and dialysis dependence
