Objective:

The Manager of Mechanical Design Engineering will lead a team of mechanical design engineers to develop, implement and select equipment & auxiliaries required for compressor packages, including sub-assemblies to support the Sundyne product lines. This position involves managing the complete design process, from concept to final product, while ensuring high-quality, cost-effective, and innovative engineering solutions. The ideal candidate will have strong technical expertise, leadership skills, and the ability to mentor and develop engineers while ensuring design projects are completed on time and meet organizational standards.

Duties & Responsibilities:

• Lead, mentor, and motivate a team of mechanical design engineers, ensuring high performance, growth, and development. Provide technical guidance and coaching on complex design challenges.
• Ongoing collaboration with global site leaders to gain insight into current and future projects, as well as the support needed at various levels.
• Oversee the creation and development of mechanical systems, components, and products, ensuring they meet design requirements, industry standards, and client expectations.
• Manage multiple projects simultaneously, balancing resources, schedules, and priorities. Ensure all projects are completed within scope, on time, and within budget.
• Conduct design reviews, identify risks, and provide recommendations. Ensure that detailed documentation for designs, drawings, and specifications is maintained to company standards.
• Working knowledge of rotating equipment like compressors, pumps, turbines, etc. and auxiliary support systems like dry gas seal systems, lube oil system, heat exchangers, pressure vessels, valves, filters, etc.
• Knowledge and interpretation of applicable industry standards (API-617, 692, 614, ASME Pressure Vessel Code, ASME Standards, AGMA, NACE, etc.)
• Review of customer order scope, technical specifications, and datasheets
• Plan & drive engineering activities according to the project milestones.
• Equipment sizing, selection, detailed engineering of compressor support systems in accordance with the latest API Standards (main & auxiliary drivers, heat exchangers, seal gas heaters, lube oil pumps, instruments, gages, surge control valves and systems, etc.)
• Preparation of Material Requisition and Vendor Offer evaluation
• Validation of supplier design, calculations, and documents
• Create and/or review and approve engineering drawings and documentation; seal gas and lube oil system data sheets, system layout drawings, build data sheets, quality/test reports, etc.
• Create bills of material
• Provide directions to design/drafting resources.
• Conduct pre-release design reviews, P&ID Reviews, 3D Model reviews, etc.
• Provide engineering & troubleshooting support for assembly and testing activities.
• Drive engineering excellence and continuous improvement, including the creation of Engineering Standard Work
• Stay abreast of new technology and adapt accordingly.
• Assist Application Engineering and Sales in winning new business.
• Manufacturing support, machine design, understanding of GD&T
• Provide consultation to Field Service for start-up/commissioning and troubleshooting.
• Travel to domestic or international customers and supplier sites required on a limited basis. Includes kickoff meetings, design review meetings, and HAZOP meetings.

Education and Experience:

• Bachelor’s in mechanical engineering
• 12 to 17 years of related engineering experience, including manufacturing, EPCs, and/or oil and gas industry.
