Job Description: Packaging Engineer (Packaging Optimization)

The Packaging Engineer is responsible for the optimization of packaging processes, materials, and methods to ensure that products are protected during transit, aligned with branding standards, and contribute to the company’s sustainability goals. This role will work closely with product development, supply chain, and quality assurance teams to implement effective, cost-efficient, and environmentally sustainable packaging solutions.

Location – Gandhinagar, Gujarat

Key Responsibilities

• ⁠ ⁠Packaging Design & Optimization:
• Identify and implement the most efficient packaging solutions for each product, including box size, type, and material, to minimize material use and prevent in-transit damages.
• Analyze and select appropriate packaging materials that balance cost, protection, and environmental impact.
• Develop innovative packaging methods that enhance efficiency, safety, and protection during transportation.
• ⁠ ⁠Sustainability in Packaging:
• Lead initiatives for green packaging solutions, including the use of eco-friendly, biodegradable, and recyclable materials.
• Ensure that packaging designs meet company sustainability goals and comply with environmental regulations and certifications.
• Conduct lifecycle assessments to evaluate the environmental impact of packaging options.
• ⁠ ⁠Damage Prevention (Transit damage):
• Collaborate with the logistics team to ensure packaging designs are optimized to reduce damage rates during transit.
• Implement testing protocols to validate packaging effectiveness in preventing damage (e.g., drop tests, compression tests).
• ⁠ ⁠Cost Efficiency:
• Analyze packaging costs and work on cost-saving initiatives without compromising the quality or protective nature of the packaging.
• Continuously seek ways to improve packaging efficiency and reduce material waste.
• ⁠ ⁠Branding & Compliance:
• Ensure all packaging solutions adhere to the company’s branding guidelines, product specifications, and customer requirements.
• Stay up to date with industry standards and regulatory compliance for packaging materials and labeling.
• ⁠ ⁠Cross-functional Collaboration:
• Work closely with product development, operations, supply chain, and quality assurance teams to ensure packaging solutions align with production processes and supply chain capabilities.
• Provide technical support and training to the production team regarding packaging methods and handling procedures.
• ⁠ ⁠Vendor Management:
• Identify, evaluate, and manage relationships with packaging material suppliers to ensure the quality, sustainability, and cost-effectiveness of packaging materials.
• Stay updated on the latest innovations in packaging materials and methods from external suppliers.
• ⁠ ⁠Data Analysis & Reporting:
• Monitor and analyze packaging performance metrics, including in-transit damage rates, packaging costs, and material waste.
• Prepare reports and presentations to communicate packaging performance and optimization results to senior management.
  
  

Key Qualifications

• ⁠ ⁠Education: Bachelor’s degree in Packaging Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field.
• ⁠ ⁠Experience: 5-10 years of experience in packaging engineering, preferably in a manufacturing environment. Experience with sustainable packaging is a plus.
• ⁠ ⁠Technical Skills:
• Knowledge of packaging materials, packaging design software, and industry-standard testing protocols.
• Strong understanding of sustainability practices in packaging (e.g., recyclable materials, life cycle analysis).
• ⁠ ⁠Soft Skills:
• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Excellent communication and collaboration abilities to work cross-functionally.
• Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
  
  

Preferred Skills

• ⁠ ⁠Knowledge of Lean manufacturing principles and how they apply to packaging.
• ⁠ ⁠Familiarity with packaging regulations and sustainability certifications (e.g., ISO, FSC, or other green certifications).
• ⁠ ⁠Experience working with packaging suppliers and negotiating contracts for packaging materials.
